Jannis Kounellis is a Greek artist associated with Arte Povera. His works are powerfully structured arrangements, incorporating found objects and parts. Painting, sculpture, installation, performance… Jannis Kounellis’ work encompasses spatialization and the living, though he prefers to frame it in terms of painting. More a pictorial creator than a painter proper, Jannis Kounellis avails himself of artistic means to refute the gratuitous, superficial, ahistorical and non-ideological aspect of art. All of his works engage with the issue of meaning.
