The contemporary Brazilian artist Kleber Matheus creates installations that situate his graphic reflections in space. Neon, using which he crafts ambitious constructs that allow him to create a complex play of light and shadow, is his favorite medium. Initially conceived as independent pieces, his neon signs establish geometric combinations intended to simulate openings or to inscribe an elementary sign on the surface of the limits of a specific space, or integrate more daring, exuberant, and lush compositions. Straight lines, curves, knots, cubes, masks, squares, quadrangles, octagons, and triangles make up his usual vocabulary. The work of Kleber Matheus reinvents signage as visual art and engages the public gaze by transforming museum space.
