"Glass is so complex… There are so many different worlds and techniques to discover that I always take great pleasure in using it. The discussion with the glassmaker during its blowing is essential for me. His gesture is always there, coming from a great tenderness. And of course, there is immediacy. The form is present in an instant, it exists, you can feel it. "
Jean-Michel Othoniel is a French artist who created an imaginary universe of various techniques (drawings, sculptures, photographs, writings, choreography, or videos), within which the reversible qualities of the objects around us must be fully accepted. The artist’s very individual universe is influenced by fairy tales, dreams, and psychoanalysis. It was from 1993 that Othoniel introduced glass into his work and experimented with its properties. Collaborating with the best Murano craftsmen, he explores the properties of this material that soon became his trademark. The delicacy of the glass and the subtlety of its colors are part of the artist's vast project: to poetize and re-enchant the world.
