Elisa SIGHICELLI

" My work is a constant questioning of the medium of photography, of its two-dimensionality, display, and subject matter. I work with the space of the photograph, to find ways to extend the space of representation into the real space of the viewer as well as to show a space beyond the picture plane. “

The images of Elisa Sighicelli could relate to genre photography: landscapes, interiors, or contemporary vanities (a candle or a dying plant) and this in places as varied as a winter garden in Cuba, dunes and their " bush "in Namibia, the frozen sea of Iceland or its verdant plains. However, the plastic possibilities of these subjects interest the artist more than their documentary dimension. Elisa Sighicelli's approach is to test the obvious sense of reality. From this perspective, the painting probes the commonplace, the cliché to reveal a bit of privacy. The photographs of Elisa Sighicelli are often divided according to a horizon line which is equivalent to "line of sight". What is below is blurry, in a relation to the body close to the touch, as if the spectator were in contact with the object or the situation presented in the foreground.
