Cy TWOMBLY

"I am influenced by everything I see. A painting, but also a looming sky."

A total artist, at once a painter, draftsman, sculptor, and photographer, Cy Twombly belongs to the generation formed in particular by Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, and Brice Marden, renewing American art after the generation of abstract expressionists such as Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, and Barnett Newman. Cy Twombly develops his work on the sidelines of the debates between abstraction and figuration, rejecting neither one nor the other. The diversity and breadth of his work constitute an apparent formal paradox, but also a rich artistic and intellectual research. Abstract without being completely, his art has an intellectual aspect but at the same time a sensual and emotional dimension directly perceptible.
