" I’m an artist that works from an idea, and then I build it, I’m going to reflect it in my work. “
Inspired by the New Realism movement of the 1960s, Joana Vasconcelos is an artist of Portuguese origin committed to society. His work combines everyday objects, applied arts, and know-how from Portuguese cultures such as ceramics, embroidery, or even ironwork. From this encounter are born sculptures, installations, and monuments that the artist has frequently installed in public spaces. Joana Vasconcelos is an artist who handles humor and fantasy as much as she develops a work of political content deeply rooted in today's society. The question of domesticity is at the heart of this project, which borrows its title from the pop-rock universe of the group Queen and offers each and everyone to walk in this interior which appeals to all the senses: the works are presented to the gaze, some may be touched when others are playing music or giving off a pungent odor.
