"It is precisely this serial, fragmentary, fragmented aspect, these stylistic differences, these mixtures...all this incoherence, which in turn lends my work its coherence."
Painter, engraver, sculptor, and theater decorator, a major exponent of Narrative Figuration and New Spanish Figuration, Eduardo Arroyo is an artist whose artistic expression revolves around themes such as the role of the painter in society or the situation of the exiled intellectual, all described with great narrative thrust. Arroyo also deals with exile, political assassinations, and complicity in the Franco regime under which he grew up. Best known for his parodic descriptions of characters in a flattened pictorial space, this magician of the image has created a vocabulary and syntax based on a literary and autobiographical painting, set out in series, where self-irony and the tragicomic vie for superiority.
