"Getting closer to children is wonderful, they are very dear to me, and making a child's bust, though very difficult, proves tremendously rewarding."
Paul Belmondo is a French sculptor whose entire oeuvre embodies the sentiment of a "return to order". Far from just a remnant of the 19th century, Belmondo's art is a modern figuration in search of harmony through the use of simple lines and smooth shapes. Though his themes may find their inspiration in Antiquity and the Renaissance, the artist's refined style is especially evident in his busts which owe much to the sensitivity and finesse of Charles Despiau. His sculptures always endeavor to transcribe the deep interiority of the subject represented; they also show sincere attention to an ideal of purity and innocence.
