Louise Bourgeois is a pioneering visual artist in the organic tradition, creating as a means of exorcising her demons and childhood trauma. Oscillating between surrealism, abstract expressionism, and minimalism, her work hovers between abstract geometry and organic reality and escapes any artistic classification. A sculptor, Louise Bourgeois nevertheless remains attached to the painted, engraved, and drawn image with which she began.
