Christo, whose full name is Christo Vladimiroff Javacheff, is a visual artist of Bulgarian origin. Like César, Mimmo Rotella, Niki de Saint Phalle and Gérard Deschamps before him, Christo is one of the New Realists. His artistic project is the wrapping of monuments, notable places, or parks to create extraordinary and ephemeral work. Christo is, along with his wife and collaborator, Jeanne-Claude, a master in the art of transforming space by wrapping famous buildings. The couple lend "a new sculptural dimension" to the monuments that they appropriate, drape, make prominent and color.
