"In my works, colour appears and disappears over the course of a dialogue that is established between space and real time. Simultaneously, there arises the absolute fact that the information gleaned and knowledge memorized during our lifetime are likely questionable, at least in part."
Venezuelan artist Carlos Cruz-Diez was one of the major figures in optical and kinetic art. His research made him one of the leading colour theorists of the 20th century. Carlos Cruz-Diez's artistic discourse revolves around the chromatic phenomenon conceived as an autonomous reality that evolves in space and time, without the help of form or medium, in a continuous present. Thus, his work is based on multidisciplinary research into chromatic phenomena, particularly within the context of the movement of the viewer and the light source. A series of chromatic and optical variations is thus created.
