Marc Desgrandchamps is a major painter on the French art scene. He constantly seeks to renew the vocabulary of figurative painting and to test its limits both through his artistic inventiveness and through his unique way of introducing and combining art history, photography and cinema. His technique involves playing with colour and transparency, which, quite apart from its striking visual effects, emphasizes the role of reminiscences of images or sensations in developing his painting.
